Jules Chéret (French, 1836 - 1932) Jules Chéret Chéret was born in 1836, the son of a French typesetter in Paris. He briefly studied drawing, then started training at age 13 in lithography, working as an apprentice and journeyman in Paris and London for 17 years. He got his break when perfume manufacturer Eugène Rimmel hired him as a designer.

Jules Chéret was a French artist who mastered the art of lithography in the late 19th and early 20th century. He wasn't a privileged boy, and he didn't receive much of a formal education, but he had a background of very artistic and creative family which was enough for him to become one of the most prolific designers of his time.
